School Story:

Riding the train to Sioux Falls on a weekend was the best shopping trip ever. The ticket was only 50 cents one-way. Such a deal!

I liked the walk to downtown Canton, and appreciated all I had to do was affix my signature to a sign out dorm sheet. (My parents were much more speculative and curious about my activities.)

Lazarus Spengler (1479-1534), an ardent lay supporter of Martin Luther and leader of the Reformation in Nuremberg, is my 13th great uncle and the the most exciting discovery of my genealogical search. He was the ninth of 21 children and the brother of my 14th great grandfather George. Lazarus Spengler was largely responsible for the design of the Luther rose, adopted by Luther at the time of the Diet of Augusburg. He is also remembered as the author of several hymns; one of these, "All Mankind Fell In Adam's Fall," is quoted in the Book of Concord, the official Lutheran confession.
